Octorber 4th

Time flies!!

I cannot believe that it is already October!!

Today, we thought about racism with my classmates.

For me, it was very interesting to listen to other opinions.

In addition, there are lots of differences between our classmates' opinions.

Some of them said that people from island countries were more racist than others.

At that time, I began to think about the differences between racism and nationalism.

Needless to say, races must be bigger groups than national groups.

However, I have never thought Korean or Chinese and Japanese as same race.

Because each of us has specific differences and it is not able to gather in one group,

and also I do never think Japanese as the best people in the world.

Of cource, for me, only for me, Japan must be most comfortable country to live

because it is my homeland.

Although, I have never thought that Japanese is the best race or Asian is the most valuable race.

After that discussion, I realized that I have never divided racism and nationalism clearly.

Maybe, I have to think by myself about the definition of racism and nationalism...

  1. Hi Buchi,

    Thanks for posting!

I think it very interesting that you have not thought of Koreans, Chinese, and Japanese as the same race. What about when you were in Canada? Did others make you feel that way as it is common in Canada and my country to place "Asians" in one big group? But I suppose it is similar for me in that I can be classified as "European" in the Caucasian sense but as an American I sure don't think of myself as European.

  2. Hi,Buchi!
Your opinion is interesting, isn't it! If BI section mates can use the blogger effectively, we can think about a lot of topics, such as racism and nationalism, in English anytime on the blog:D. It will be a good opportunity for our studying English and thinking about the world.
I will have a middle term test (tyuukansiken) in the Introduction to International Relations (English class) on Monday. Oh, dear... This Sunday, I will have a competition of Archery. It's a trying weekend, I think.
    Enjoy your weekend:-o

    Thanks for your comment!
In Canada, I felt more comfortable when I was with South Korean than with other people. It might be from some similarity between Japan and South Korea. However, it was not same as Chinese. I could be her parsonality, but I had a very hard time to be with the Chinese woman. She was staying in ky host family's house. She was too proud of her own country's culture to accept Canadian culture. I could not think that this type of attitude is same as Japanese one. On the other hand, even if I feel confortable to be with Korean, sometimes it is also difficu;t to understand Korean, for example, about army. They talk about their experience in army very naturally and for fun. It was, for me, because I dont like army and weapon, it was ewally shocking little bit. Of course, I know that these are coming from the differences between cultures. Therefore, I have never thought that we have same characters or we are same race.
